Publishing issue -

I recently installed FrontPage 2003. I have a website
www.fundraisingwithhgpcandles.com that someone else designed. I would like
to be able to make my own changes to this site, because my web designer isn’t
being too helpful with making changes when I need them. I can’t figure out
how to publish, and I’m afraid of doing the wrong thing, and losing
everything. When I hit publish, I get a screen that says “Remote web site
propertiesâ€. I assume I click on the first button “FrontPage or Sharepoint
services†(I have FrontPage extensions). Then at the bottom I type in my web
sites name where it asks for the location. I don’t understand the next
screen that says at the bottom “Publish all changed pagesâ€â€¦it gives me 3
options, 1-Local to remote, 2-Remote to local, and 3-Synchronize. I tried
the first one, hit publish site, then I get a pop up screen that says “some
items have changed on both the local and remote web sites and are in
conflictâ€, I chose ignore and continue (also says overwrite remote files and
cancel) and then it will say it’s been published, but no changes have been
made? Any help on publishing would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in
advance!

This is confusing, I know. When you are in FrontPage, you can be looking at
your hard drive (considered "local", in which case the "remote" is the web
server), OR - you can be looking at your REMOTE site (here's the confusing
part - if you are logged in live viewing your site, then your "local" is what
your BRAIN says is the "remote", and your "remote" is what your brain says is
"local"). It is very confusing until you get the hang of it.

To get the hang of it, consider FrontPage believes whatever location you
have logged into is called "LOCAL". There are two ways to log in, as you
probably know - one is where you look under "My Webs" or "My Web Sites" - the
other is where you look in "Remote Webs" or "Remote Web Sites". After
logging into the web with FrontPage, you can determine how you are logged in
by looking in the upper left status area. Does it say "Microsoft FrontPage -
C:\Documents and Setting\ (or something similar for a hard drive) ... blah
blah blah???" OR does it say "Microsoft FrontPage -
http:\\[yoursite.com\blah blah blah...]"

If it is on your hard drive, you will see it there with the drive name. If
it is on the server, you will see the "http:\\". Now. after you know where
you are logged in, simply consider the LOG IN as "local" and the *other* as
"remote".

That should clarify things (I hope). You can always set up a new web on
your local drive if you are unsure. :)
