Publishing error

"The server sent a response which FrontPage could not parse. If you are
trying to connect to a Windows Sharepoint Services Server, check with the
server's admin to make sure Windows SharePoint Services is installed
properly."

I'm getting this error message when I publish files to my Linux-based host.
Why is it suggesting that I need Windows installed?

Strangely, FP will let me publish say 30 or 40% of the way, then it will get
hung up in the middle and I"ll get that error. I restart publishing, it will
publish maybe half of the files, then gets hung up again.

Any ideas?
