The clear blue days are a good thing about Edmonton. I think that is what
impressed me the most. Having never lived in a western city before I was
amazed that one could have so many clear sunny days, day after day. I loved
it. And I liked the northern location .. the really long summer days and the
really short winter ones. And the flatness made getting around by bike so
friggin easy. I could whip anywhere .. no need for car .. no need for bus
... quick as a bunny.

And since I'm a bit of a plane-watcher the idea of an airport right in town
is nice. I would jog around it. I loved it.

And the subway was great. When downtown one could just zip back and forth on
it for free.

I also like the things nearby - the buffalo - the dinosaurs to the south.
I'd never heard so much quiet in my life as when I visited the badlands near
Drumheller. You simply don't get that kind of quiet here in the east ..
there's always noise of some sort. And Edmonton treats her disabled people
very well, which is admirable ( I was there for sign language interpreter
training and got a bit of a tour - some of the facilities were top-notch).

Some of the "bad" things included all those empty Lysol spray cans. A "bar
crowd" that was too wild (too many sl*ts both male and female). Too many bad
stories about native people and bad attitudes towards them. And I was
attacked at a bank machine and robbed while there by a native bunch. Perhaps
things are better now. I learned quickly to avoid the night-life. The city
needed to get a grip on problems the native people were having there.
There's goodness among them but they are so wounded.

I like my landlady when there. She showed me how to use the deluxe
washing/drying equipment. My apartment was cool, clean, with a skylight and
great view.

That West Edmonton Mall is practically the eighth wonder of the world. Who
ever heard of submarines, skating rink and a pirate ship in a shopping mall?

When I first arrived there I got one of my biggest shocks - the politeness
of the Edmonton drivers. They would actually stop to let pedestrians cross
the street. I was floored.

And I really just plain liked the city .. nice buildings .. nice people ..
many Christians .. the river .. and the vitality.

'Count your blessings.

OK How long will we be able to use it?

Will it be Ultimate only or can we try out Home Basic and /or Premium?

I do intend to purchase a license but getting a chance to use the RTM
version early sounds cool with me.

There's three of us from our department registered and planning on going.
It's just down the street from our office, so life is good. Looking forward
to the information, if nothing else.

I remember the one I went to years ago, when XP was being launched. I think
I ended up coming home with 3 copies of XP Pro and 3 XP t-shirts... Gave
two copies of XP back to the office (that was in the days before our Gold
Partner status) and kept one for myself, with the companies blessing. Life
was good. :)
