Public Folders - Show Total Items

Is it possible to change a public folder to show the total number of items
instead of unread items under the Favorites folder in Outlook 2003?
Choosing properties on the folder shows both options greyed out and it
defaults to showing unread items for any type of folder. We have contact
folders that unread items really doesn't make sense for. Thanks.

Not that I know of, but if the user selects the PF, the total item count
should show up on the bottom left of the window.
