public folders and groups

our company has 10-15 public folders for the company. we have to go in an
assign each user publishing editor permissions for each folder. is there a
way to assign a group to that folder? thanks.

Yes, you can use a universal security group, created in AD, to assign folder permissions. If you try to use a universal distribution group and you are running AD in native mode, Exchange will automatically convert it to a security group.

Thanks for your help. i have tried what you said. created a universal
security group. i added someone to the group. i went to a public folder and
added that group and gave the group publishing editor permissions. The
permissions are not being applied to the user. when i just add the user to
the public folder and give them publishing editor permissions the user
recieves the permissions. can you think of any reason why this would happen
and how do i apply the permissions to the members of the universal security
group? thanks.

How long did you wait before testing? Sometimes it can take a couple of hours before permissions take effect.
