Setting default folder rights

D

DE

A person with adequate rights creates a public folder, and some
sub-folders with it. They are able to assign rights to the public
folder, and the sub-folders created at the same time, without issue;
any rights they assign on the main folder creation propagate properly.

Later, they have to add other people and want to give those people
rights to the main folder as well as sub-folders. But when they create
the sub-folder, the new user (who has been given rights to the main
folder) doesn't by default have rights to the sub-folders.

Is there a means to propagate rights down from a folder to its
sub-folders, other than at initial folder creation? Or a way to set the
default rights on the main folder so that anyone who is given rights to
it also has the same rights for sub-folders?

I am looking for the equivalent of what's called "inherited rights
filter" in Novell, but for Outlook public folders. So if I add a user
to the main folder, those rights will propagate down to any sub-folders,
other than at folder creation. Or, perhaps, call it "default rights"
for sub-folder creation.

Thanks.

Rights don't propagate down when you add or change permissions after the
folders are created. you can use PFDAVAdmin to change the permissions.

Thanks. I wasn't so much looking for a rights change to propagate down
automatically -- that would make it impossible to set the parent folder
different from the sub-folder, and I'm not looking to change parent
folder rights but rather to set a default for the parent and all child
folders -- so rather when a user was added to the parent folder with
certain rights, those rights would propagate down to the sub-folders in
the same way as occurs at initial folder creation.

However, I think the answer is likely the same. Thanks.

You are correct. You can use PFDAVAdmin to propagate the permissions on
just the branch but its probably not worth the effort for a subfolder or
two - if there are hundreds to change it will save time.
