Psychodelic colours in Windows media player.

I am trying to create a movie (.WMV) using WIndows Movie Maker 2.1. I am
pturing video via a USB connection to my Sony HC40 digital camcorder. The
movie clips are fine in Movie Maker but if I view them in Media player (e.g.
by directly selecting in the My Videos folder), the colour is like that
psychodelic effect you used to get on top of the pops. I've tried a few
different settings for capture but still get the same problem. What am I
doing wrong?

Hi George....I have an HC40 also. I never could import video very well with
just the USB connection. I don't think it is fast enough. You should get
a 'firewire' cable, and attach it to your HC40 (on the side), and the other
end into the firewire port on your computer. Its also called an IEEE 1394
port. I hope your computer is a newer one and has that port available. I
have a Vaio, so it is right on the front of mine.
If you buy a firewire cable, you will need to know if it is a 4 pin to 6 pin
that is needed (sony computer) or a 4 pin to 4 pin cable. You can read
about that in the HC40 instruction book. When you capture with MM2, you
have an original file in a folder you specify, and also the clips in the MM2
program itself which you can edit; before you 'save' it. I am surprised
that you did get a full import thru your USB into Movie Maker....wow, did you
run that overnight?!!! he he he he Good luck, if you have a computer
with the port, you'll be VERY happy you got the firewire cable...I got mine
at Best Buy I think.

Hi George,
I am already using IEEE 1394 but I have the same problem as you. I get the
psychodelic effect when I try and create a movie (.wmv) I can capture video
from my panasonic digital video camera and the clips are fine, but as soon as
I create a movie it plays psychodelic.

Hi everyone,
You know, I'm having the same problem as you are. I make the movie
from clips that look ok, but when I view it in media player(by opening the
folder where I saved it and clicking the file), it looks like the skins are
turned on, but they're not.

If anyone found out what this is, Please help......
I thought this was going to be easy!!!

Thanks

JEFF

Hi George,

Did you ever figure out the problem is? I have the same thing both from
digicam clips and video camera clips. Works fine in MM2 then goes psycho in
Media Player.
