PST Unavailable

We are having problems with accessing pst files. The Archive file is located
on a shared network folder. When clicking on the pst file within Outlook, a
message advises that Current folder is unavailable/cannot be displayed. To
resolve this issue, Outlook has to be closed then reopened. Sometimes a
reboot is required. This problems is happening to some of our users.
We are currently using Outlook 2000 and 2003 and is affected on both versions.
 
Definitely now a solution, but FWIW, Microsoft does not support the use of
PST files on/across LAN/WAN links.
 
What is FWIW? You say there is a solution but then say Microsoft does not
support PST across LAN etc. Could you please elaborate on your response.
