pst restore

I have backed up my office 2007 outlook while still on a computer using XP,
now I have a new computer with Vista and I am trying to resore my pst files.
The pst file is around 3 megs, when I go through the restore sequence the
computer hard drive works a little but nothing bhappens, when I go to check
the pst file using explorer, I find the file has been reduced to 256kb, but
no information has been transferred. I have tried this a few times and also
installed Office SP1 and SP2 but still the same result. Does anyone have a
solution.

When you performed your Outlook backup, was Outlook closed?

Outlook was opened to backup files etc

A 265KB PST file is empty. What is the "restore sequence" you refer to?
