".pst is not a personal folders file"

Bought a new computer when hard drive died. Luckily I
had a recent backup of data. Copied my data files over
to my new computer, including the Outlook.pst I have been
using in Outlook 2003 just fine.

Got Outlook 2003 up and running just fine, except ....

Regardless of what I do, I cannot get Outlook to open the
Outlook.pst file.

I keep getting an error that says "Outlook.pst is not a
personal folders file".

I've tried opening it as the new format, as the old
format, tried importing it, etc... Outlook won't accept
it any way.

So I thought that file might be corrupt. Went to the
previous backup. Nope. And the previous. Nope. And so
on.

Tried running the repair tool on it and it won't work.

Now I know this file IS the correct format. I have been
using it for weeks.

Any suggestions?

Does it have a read-only attribute on its properties? If yes uncheck that
option.

No, I checked that too. I saw that mentioned in one of
the KB articles. I'm at a complete loss here.

Are there any conversion utilities that maybe I could
convert to (like Act or Goldmine) then re-import that
data into the new .pst file?

I sure appreciate the response.

Have you already ran scanpst.exe against it? How did you previously back up
the file? If you did this while Outlook was open you've been backing up
corrupted files (ever tested a back up?)
