PST from XP OUtlook into Vista's

I want to stop using Outlook and move my PST files to Vista's Windows Mail. I
have Outlook installed on an XP partition of my multiboot computer, with
Vista on another partition.

Do I need to install Outlook into Vista, import my 4 PST files into Windows
Mail and then uninstall Outlook from Vista?

Or is it possible to import my PST files into XP's Outlook Express and then
have Windows Vista's Windows Mail "find" and import my XP Outlook Express
data files from the XP partition, so I don't need to do the install of
Outlook into Vista and then the uninstall?

Also, I wanted to cross-post this question to the Windows Vista General
Discussion but "advanced options" requires me to "use full USENET
designation" of that group and I have no idea what that would be. Please
either cross-post this message or tell me how I can. -thanks

Your easiest if you don't have Outlook installed on Vista, would be to
export from Outlook to Outlook Express and then copy your entire message
store folder from Outlook Express to your Vista install and put it on the
Desktop or some other location, and use Windows Mail's File/Import/Messages
function. Without Outlook installed, a PST file is just a collection of
meaningless data that is unreadable by normal humans.

Also, when copying to the Vista partition, prior to importing, make sure the
files are not read only. They never fixed that bug and import won't work
unless the read only attribute is cleared.

For the cross posting issue, you can try using NNTP instead of the web
interface.
