Please can anyone tell me how to access a .pst file that I
was given by my previous employer (made redundant last
week). It contains my Outlook personal email folders
which I urgently need access to. I have Outlook Express
installed and use AOL for emailing. When I try to access
the pst folder (on CD) I get a window saying Windows
cannot open this file and needs to know what program
created it. It was Outlook that created it. Can anyone
explain why I can't open it? Many thanks.

You'll need to install Outlook, copy the file from the CD to your hard
drive, turn off the read-only flag, and then use Outlook's File | Open
command.

Many thanks for your help.

.

Sue,

Slightly different problem with two PST files 6 & 32 Mb respectively
MS Outlook 2000 on my new PC does Open/Import the files OK.
The problem is they both show ZERO messages. Both files were
transferred to new PC by installing the old HD in the new PC and
copy everything onto new HD.

They still work fine on the old PC !!!

Thanks in advance

Where do they show zero messages? Have you tried using Advanced Find to
search for everything? Have you run Scanpst against them?

Don't import them. Use File>Open>Personal Folders File.

- Where do they show zero messages?
No messages in Inbox or Sent Items
No contacts
Clean calendar

- Have you run Scanpst against them?
Yes, no errors reported, no problems to fix

- Have you tried using Advanced Find to search for everything?
No, but I will.

TIA
