pst files show 'in use' close before saving this item

My pst files are messed up. Brian Tillman answered a similar question for
Outlook 2003. I am using Outlook 2007 and cannot find the 'Tools>Folder
Options" he mentioned to enable hidden files and folders in Explorer.
Oultook1.pst shows somewhere but I cannot get it back to plain Outlook pst as
Brian suggested

Its named outlook1.pst because there is allready a data file named
outlook.pst, and thats the default name for a second, new pst. If you
created a 3rd it would be named outlook2.pst, by default
