.PST File won't decrease in size

F

Frank

1. I had over two years worth of e-mail in my PST file
that made the file size aproximately 850 MEGS.

2. I needed to shrink file size.

3. So I deleted in Outlook ALL MESSAGES and only left
contacts. This should have decreased the file size of
the PST file. However it has not.

4. What can I do now to decrease the file size of the
PST file?

Hi Frank,

Reduce the size of a data file
------------------------------------------------
A data file is a Personal Folders file (.pst) (Personal Folders file
(.pst): Data file that stores your messages and other items on your
computer. You can assign a .pst file to be the default delivery location
for e-mail messages. You can use a .pst to organize and back up items for
safekeeping.). If you delete items from a data file, the size of the file
will not change unless you compact the file. Compacting the file might take
several minutes.

On the File menu, click Data File Management.
Click the data file that you want to compact, and then click Settings.
Click Compact Now.
Note When you compact a .pst file, you do not have to exit Microsoft
Outlook.

For further information Please take a look at How to configure the size
limit for both .pst and .ost files in Outlook 2003. Microsoft Knowledge

Please let me know has this helped You...
Thank You...

Right click on Outlook Today in the Folder pane, choose Properties for
Outlook Today (personal folders), go to Advanced and you should see the
option to compact there.
