Recover items from a .PST file

OK, here goes.

I had to reinstall Office 2007, and moved folders from one .PST file
to another. So, I had the main outlook folder now containing all the
folders from my old .PST file.

I then, as luck would have it, I had a system craash which called for
a complete re-install of windows and then office. At this point it
dawned on me that my e-mails were in the .PST file that was stored on
the C: drive! Fearing I had lost all my e-mails, I noticed that the
old .PST file was still the same size as it was before. So I thought
that it woudl contain the e-mails that were moved previously--or at
least a 'marked as deleted' copy. The .PST file has not been
compacted and is still its original size. So, I had a look at it with
some software I downloaded from the net--Recovery Toolbox for Outlook--
but it does not find any e-mails in the .PST file.

Have I lost them?

TIA

Not an answer to this particular problem but some advice for the future.
Download and burn to a CD, a Live CD version of Linux. There are several
that are suitable - Linux Mint would be one of the better ones to choose.
Get it here:
http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

With this, if you get a non hardware-related crash (i.e the HDD has not
failed) that needs a re-installation of the OS, you can boot from the CD and
rescue all your data to removable media.

HTH!

If you moved folders or mail via drag & drop from one pst to another, they
are gone from the origonal
If you move a significant amount of data from a pst the size is not
neccessarily going to be reflected until that pst is compacted, then the
empty space is recovered

For your future well being, I suggest that you move your .pst file to a
folder under My Documents. Then backup the My Documents folder frequently.
It has saved my files a couple of times.

To recover mails from pst file, you can try a 3rd part data-recover
tool called Advanced Outlook Repair. You can download a free demo
version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe . I think it is a
useful repair tool for you. It is easy to recover your PST file by
using its wizard. It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders
and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST
files.
Detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found at
