Hi
recently i had shifted my machine from one to another, i am using windows xp
sp3 wih office 2007.Previously i am using wnxp sp2 with office 2003.
I had taken normal backup of my outlook, now whenever i m trying to import
that .pst file, it gives me a error that "this file is not a personal
folders file".
I had already tried different ways, some recovery tools & software to import
that file but no joy!

Thanks in advance for coming up a good solution.

How did you backup that PST file?
How did you transport that PST file - is it read-only?
Do NOT import your backup into Outlook, just open it with File | Open.

I had used file > Export to a file >select PST file.
I had transport that file with flash drive, i had check the attributes of
the file its not read only,
Yes i had tried import wizard, File | Open as well as Tools > Options > Mail
Setup > Add data files

Use Outlook recovery tools and scanpst.exe
But nothing works no joy ! :(

Export is not backup!

Do you still have the original PST file? If so, copy it to the new
machine, then open it with Outlook. This is the correct procedure.

Ok it means its mistake from my side
But now i dont have the original file, i had only that exported file with me.

Did you already copy the pst-file back to your hard drive and verified the
Read Only file attribute is not selected?

You can try using a 3rd party recovery tool. I've had good results with
Datanumen Outlook Repair;
http://addins.howto-outlook.com/datanumen_outlookrepair
If you decide to order use DNC-PUXB-HT to get a discount.

Another good utility is OutlookFix from Cimaware;
http://addins.howto-outlook.com/cimaware_outlookfix

Try a demo version of the tool first before purchasing to see if any of
these tools can still recover some data from the file.

Hello

Error: .pst file is not a personal forlder file"

Try the Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe) to recover folders and items from a
corrupted Personal Folders (.pst) file in Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook
2003, and Outlook 2007. which is a hidden file that is installed
automatically when you install Windows.

Have you tried an advanced PST Repair Software (Evaluate here:
http://www.repair-outlook-pst.com/download-pst-recovery.php ) which is
effective to use and safe for PST repair, the software supports all Outlook
versions, helps at each stage of corruption for PST recovery and a definite
solution to your problem.

Hi Roady

Would you like to review another advanced PST Repair Tool with some
excellent features equipped with new release of the software like
compatibility with "windows7", "count of all items in individual folder", MS
"outlook is not required" on system for running application, no need to
rescan the file in full version and most exciting is "100% preview" & "Detail
Summary Report" of all recoverable items which help you to evaluate the
software and make better decision about how helpful will it be for you?
