PS2 Ports stop responding for login.

I have XP box that as soon as I get the login screen the mouse and
keyboard stop responding. I am able to use the keyboard in BIOS so I am
ruling out mobo problem; I have noticed that when my keyboard and mouse
become disabled the num lock key will no longer respond. I am convinced
this is a Windows issue since the keyboard does function in bios and
the mouse will work for a few seconds in login screen before locking
up. Any thoughts on this?
My attempts in troubleshooting have been as follows:
1: Usb mouse will work but not an usb keyboard. I can login using rdp
and installed drivers for the usb keyboard that way.
2: Reset bios to default settings.
3: Copied keyboard.drv from like workstation for both system and
system32.
4: Tried several PS2 keyboards and yes I did power off first before
switching out.
5: Disabled in bios serial, sound and parallel ports.
Thanks.

* Log in to your account, open Device Manager.
* expand (+) Keyboards, right-click your keyboard driver, select 'Uninstall'
* expand (+) 'Mice & other pointing devices', right-click your mouse driver,
select 'Uninstall'
* Restart the computer
* The drivers will reinstall

Note:
Even if you have no mouse or keyboard drivers installed they will function
from the BIOS by design. Once you log in and you have a bad driver or no
driver they will cease to function. Hopefully this will do the job for you.
Good Luck.

Drew,

Thanks for the advive but I did that with the first two tries and that
did not resolve. I did forget to mention that both mosue and keybaord
are conflicting on same IO...yes IO. They both want to use 0060 & 0064.
Strange as I have not seen something like this since win95. I did
uninstall both and only left keyboard pluged in on reboot, that did not
resolve either. Side note.....when I try to use the usb keyboard and
mouse they both also try and use the same IO. The result is mouse will
work unitl I try the keyboard, then both become disabled. I can
duplicate this with a PS2 keyboard and PS2 mouse. I fing it strange
that I am having a conflicting IO issue.
