PS/2 mouse driver problem

Hi,
how do I force Windows XP Pro to load the PS/2 mouse drive (I8042PRT.SYS) regardless whether a PS/2 mouse is connected to the board or not? I experience the problem that Windows XP Pro does not detect a PS/2 mouse upon boot-up occassionally. The mouse works perfectly with other computers.
