Proxy broken with XP SP2

I just installed Service Pack 2 on my XP Home Edition. I
can't get IE to use a proxy server. Whether I use an
AutoConf URL or configure a direct proxy -- no go.

This worked fine before installing SP2.

Is this a known issue? Anyone know of a workaround?

TIA,
Jonny L.

Jonny,

Can you ping the proxy?

Can you get connection to the proxy if u disable XP's built in firewall?

Answers to these two might help the group diagnose the issue.

Yes I can ping the proxy server. I can see from Ethereal
traces that IE is not even attempting to contact the
proxy server.

Doesn't matter if I disable Firewall or not.

What is your network configuration? Can you post some precise details of how you
connect to the net?

Also, what are the results of running ipconfig /all in a cmd window?

What sort of proxy are you using?

Can you connect to the net without the proxy? Odd question I know but unless the
group knows exactly how you connect to the net its mainly going to be guesswork.

Hopefully, with more precise info, someone might be able to spot the problem.

It's not that IE can't get around network problems in
contacting my proxy. I can see from Ethereal traces that
IE isn't even attempting to contact the proxy server I'm
using.

My network configuration is fine. I'm on a corporate
(ethernet) LAN with direct connect to the internet. I can
ping the proxy server just fine.

Has anyone else installed SP2 that could try a test? Run
Ethereal, then configure IE to use some proxy (just make
up some server address such as 10.1.2.3:6588). Now invoke
a new instance of IE. Check the Ethereal trace and you'll
see IE isn't even attempting to contact the proxy.

This is NOT a networking issue. It's an issue that with
XP SP2, using a proxy with IE is broken.
