Access to ISA proxy from terminal

I am using XP pro sp2 and am connected to an ISA proxy server.

I can connect to the internet via either ie or firefox.

However I cannot connect via the terminal. I have used the same
creddentials in the terminal as to access via browser but I get an access
denied message.

Anyone any ideas

You'd need to provide more information.

What service exactly are you trying to connect to?
What terminal are you using?
How exactly are you trying to connect to the service?

You need to realise you are not connected directly to the Internet if you
are going via a proxy.
Now, I don't know about ISA in particular, but in general:
A proxy server will only proxy those services which it has been set up for
( eg http, ftp ).
Typically, you will not be able to connect to other arbitrary services.

Specifically

By terminal I mean Cmd.exe
I am trying to connect using port 80 (same as ie/firefox)
I have tried to set http_proxy, http_proxy_user and http_proxy_pass to no
avail
