Protetecting a document from my own editing

I am simultaneously working on two documents. One document is a
sophisticated template and the other one is based on that template. I keep
the template open so I can make revisions to it as I realize they are needed.
Accidentally, I keep making edits to my template because I don't realize
that I'm working on it. I'd like to "lock" it, but I don't see how to do so,
except by opening it as "read only." Any suggestions? Thank you.

Hi Robert,

You could place a watermark on the 'template' pages (eg by putting an appropriately-worded WordArt object in the page
header/footer).

Cheers

Thanks, That might work. You are right, it's not a real "template," but you
get the idea. I had wanted to find something that would allow me to look at
the document but not change it unless I specifically authorized it. Oddly,
it seems to me, when I "protect" a document, it is not even able to be opened
and when it is, I can just make change, which I sometimes do inadvertently.
One option I've thought of is to turn on the "track changes," which also
works. In the meantime a visual cue might do the trick.

Thanks.

PS: Your 'template' description sounds like you're using a Word document as a template, not a true Word template - which is a
different beast altogether.

iately-worded WordArt object in the page
Seems to me a sliver surfer that the simple answer would be to make the
template "Read Only", this way it wil not allow any alterations to be made,
even accidentally. B Brush
