Hello,

How do I stop people from taking text that's defined as, say a Header which
is, say, bold, arial) and making it unbold. Right now, there's no "locking"
capability that I can see.

Unchecking automatic updates for each style doesn't help and the prompt
which gives the option to apply existing style versus applying the
reformatted style only appears AFTER the text has been reformatted, not
before.

Thanks. Valerie Ng.

In Word 2003 you have the option of protecting styles. In earlier versions,
you have little recourse.
