Protecting Startup Folder

Even though my computer is a workstation in a server environment, I have
admin rights on my local machine. The IT department has some unnecessary
programs that are added to the Startup folder every time the computer
logs into the domain. My first preference is to prevent the script from
being able to write to the Startup folder. My second preference is to
create a boot-time script that deletes the unwanted programs. My third
preference is to get a new IT department.

Is there a way to prevent writing to the Startup folder?

About your only recourse is ask them to omit your computer from the
startup scripting. Explain why you don't want the programs on the PC.
Unfortunately, IT Departments are fairly rigid on making changes for a
single machine or user. Usually, overriding or undoing a Domain policy
is a good way to get yourself in trouble. Just curious but what programs
are being installed that you want to get rid of ?

Not a permanent fix, but holding down the Shift key while logging in
prevents items in the Startup folder from launching.

If you have control over your IT people, tell them to exclude your
machine. If the programs are that unnecessary, why are they doing it at
all?

MCP,

As the others have said ask the IT department to remove them from the logon script.

You can right-click the STARTUP folder | Sharing & Security | & write permission deny
ADMINISTRATOR, SYSTEM... which will stop them being written. Click APPLY | OK

Just going into your network profile & make the changes there

DENY permissions override the others.
