Project skipping to end instead of playing

When I converted the project to dv-avi, the end had about 5 seconds of a
black screen with no audio, then came back with the end of the clip/audio for
about a second, then ended.

So I went back to the drawing board to MM 2.1.

When I try to preview my project, it may play once normally, then it skips
to the end of the last clip on future attempts. (It never shows me the 5
seconds of black that I get on the dv-avi.) I've already separated it into
three different dv-avi sections and I'm only having the problem on one. I
tried trimming the dv-avi, but it didn't help. I tried going back to the
project, as well as reimporting the clips and starting a new project. The
problem was still there.

It seems as though some clips (avi and possibly wmv), when trimmed, are
malfunctioning. The timer shows the shortened time, but the whole clip still
plays. I tried removing from the project the clips that I know it does this
on (there may be others), but it didn't seem to help.

I'm a newb, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I know it did it with an avi file. I also have wmv files in there, but I'm
not sure if they were having the problem. I restarted the project from
scratch to see what was causing the problem and I did NOT add the audio. It
was only three clips (no longer than 20 seconds each). I had no problem with
the first two. When I added the third (an avi file), it started skipping to
the end of the project, no matter where I tried to play it (except the very
beginning of the project).
The first thing I did was cut off the end of the saved dv-avi. Then I went
back adn tried to cut off the end of project, then individual clip, but it
didn't make any difference. That's when I started the project over.

I'm not sure. The file is .avi and it came from my either my digital camera
(which has video capability) or my digital camcorder.
