Audio problem when I drop a clip into the timeline

I have a Sony DCR-TRV900 and I'm using a Dell XPS with ample memory and tons
of hard drive space. I've captured two full mini DV tapes via firewire using
the DV-AVI setting. The clips are huge, about 18 gigs each. When I play
each file using anything, Media Player, Quicktime, Divx... or even in the
clip player within Moviemaker, all clips and files play fine (audio and video
is in synch). When I drop any clip into the timeline and play the clip, the
sound is in "slow motion" but the video plays fine. When I capture at "Best
quality for playback on my computer (recommended)" and drop a clip into the
timeline, the clips play fine - sound and video are in synch. I tried
capturing a two minute clip at the DV-AVI setting, thinking that maybe it's
because the file size is too big, but I get the exact same result. Please
help. I have a bunch of good equipment, but having no luck using it. Thanks.

Hi Al
Usually this is the result of either a resources issue or a codec problem.
For the resources problem check out Graham's page about optimizing your
computer for video capture:
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/Tutorials/OptimiseMyPcForVideo.htm
And for the Codec problem go to this site:
http://www.free-codecs.com/
Download and install the Windows XP Codec pack.
For more information on each check out the Movie Maker section on my
website.
