audio problems

After I have placed all my clips ( avi files) and pictures in the timeline
and then hit play, the sound plays too fast and the voices all sound like
chipmunks. Each clip plays fine in the viewer when you click on it in the
collections window. The problem happens when you put the clip in the
timeline or storyboard. I'm not sure if there is some setting that needs to
be changed or a codec I need, but I would appreciate any help. I am a
teacher and my two PreAP classes have only two weeks left to finish these
video projects for a final grade. We have already encountered several issues
/ problems with the school computer lab computers not having the right codec
to import the video files from the server, so we are already behind. Thanks
in advance.

This could be an issue with incompatible source files.
