I want to open some unfinished projects and i keep getting the error message:

Windows Movie Maker could not convert one of the clips from the source file
"C:\Documents and Settings\Daisy\My Documents\My Videos\Tape 6.WMV" because
the time values are outside the duration of the file.

The message is given for every clip. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

I downloaded the software and 'Saved with reindex' but it didn't help.

You could see if it opens in MM1 and resave it to a new file... go with
DV-AVI for minimal losses.

.... in one extreme case over two years ago, I used MovieXOne to open a WMV
file and save it as an AVI.

can you get another copy of the WMV file?

I visited your site. Very interesting. I rendered one of my films, about 30
minutes, to DV-AVI and the finished product was 8 GB which doesn't fit on a
5GB DVD. Am I doing something wrong? The WMV result was much smaller. I gues
DV-AVI is better quality than WMV?

Thanks for all the tips.

In order to watch the dvd on your dvd player you need to take the dv-avi
file into a dvd authoring app, which will convert the files in to dvd
compatable mpeg2 files and this will easily fit onto a dvd. 1 hour of avi
will fit on a 4.3gb dvd disc at best quality, over this and you need to use
more compression to make the mpeg files smaller and you will lose some
quality.

Ok. I went to AVI with MovieMaker then to Mpeg with Imtoo coverter and
finally to a DVD with MyDVD. And it plays on the TV!! But!! The quality is
terible. The picture is 'blocked', it looks like a small video which is blown
up too large so that you see blocks of color. Any ideas?

It would be the quality of the conversion to MPEG-2... it'll vary with the
software being used and the settings.

Try TMPGEnc (link on my Setup > Other Software page). It has a 30 day trial
period for MPEG-2 files. It's considered by most to make the best quality
ones.
