Programs shut down

I have upgraded from Windows 98 to XP on December 31,
2003. All has been going well except for today. When I
try to run a program, I get kicked out after about 30
seconds. I have tried several progams and it is happening
on all of them. Can you please help!
 
I purchased a new computer with Windows XP and the same
thing occurs. I have also tried several programs with the
same results. It appears that the cursor go back to the
desktop and you have to click on the application to
continue your task. Any advise work be great.
