Programs lost from the Task bar

when any programs are opened on my daughters laptop (XP pro) they do not
appear on the taskbar anymore, any Ideas please,
 
Is the task bar still there? Try taking away the Quick Launch; right click
task bar > tool bars > clear quick launch. If this fixed it could be that
quick launch was spread out so big that it was covering the entire task bar.
If this doesn't or does work, let us know.

My idea: ask in an appropriate group. Your problem is not hardware
related - please reference the group title if you are wondering what I
mean.
