Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
Version: 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4
Internet Explorer: v 6.0.2800.1106
Outlook Express: v 6.0.2800.1106
------------------------------------------
I am considering moving some programs from C\Program Files to my second drive [ D ]
Some programs indicate in their read me file " no installation necessary" and I
sometimes find "stand alone" programs in various freeware sites.

My question is:
How can I be sure that any programs I may move/install on to my D drive will
work independently?
I realize that many programs *have* to be installed in C\Program Files
eg: Office

Currently I have the following programs in D:
Disc Space Pro
EnableBigLba
Page File usage monitor
SafeXP
Shortcuts Manager
TreeCopy
TreePad Plus
xplorer2_lite

They all work - but will they if I format C Drive and reinstall Windows2000?

Any help or advice appreciated.

The vast majority of my programs are on the D drive, including Microsoft
Office. Just about every program will give you an option to change the
installation folder. Sometimes you have to choose to do a custom install
or click an advanced options button. If you want to move any programs
that require an install and write to the registry, you'll need to
uninstall them from the C drive before you reinstall them to the D
drive. They will frequently still write some information to the C drive,
typically in the C:\Program Files\Common Files, Application Data folders
of users and the Windows folder (called WINNT in Windows 2000). If you
format the C drive, many of these programs will need to be reinstalled.

Thanks for that info Tim.
