programs and icons

I installed some programs, and when completed, could be found under
start/programs/name of program. Unfortunately I moved the icons for the
programs installed onto the desktop, which work fine and can be accessed by
the icon on the desktop, but the programs now are not listed under
start/program/name of program anymore, just on the desktop. How can I copy
it somehow that it would be listed under programs also?

Use your right mouse button and drag and drop the icon back to the start
menu. It will ask you if you want to move or copy. Say copy.
