Using PIF files in XP

I just upgraded my system from Win2K to XP Pro. I have an acient MSDos
cookbook program that I use. Somehow years ago I created a PIF file to run
this program from the desktop. When I restored the directory to my harddrive
after installing XP, I can run the program from the explorer window or the
run command line. However, when I copy or move the exe or pif icon to the
desktop the program will execute but it can't fine the recipe files. The only
difference I can find when viewing the icon properties is the location. And I
can't change it. Is there a secret to creating a a .pif in xp that will do
the old msdos change directory command so that the dos exe file will run it
its directory.

PIF files are not used. You need to re-do the settings by adapting
the Command Prompt "shortcut."

Put the exe where you want it. Then create a shortcut to it. In the
shortcut tab of the shortcut properties set Start in: to the data
directory.
