Hi,

I am running Windows XP home edition using an AMD Athlon 2200 processor with
512mb ram.
If, for example I am working on a text document using Microsoft word and I
am typing text, every few minutes the document wiil go into back ground mode
as if another programme has appeared but nothing appears on the screen.

This is getting frustrating and I would be grateful if anyone could help.

Regards,

Phil.

Have you tried Ctrl+Alt+Del to look in the Processes and Applications
tab when this occurs?

What are your anti-spyware arrangements?

Hope this helps.

Yes I have tried Ctrl+Alt+Del and nothing happens.

I am running Adaware Alert as an anti- Spyware programme.

Are you saying that Task Manager does not work when you try
Ctrl+Alt+Del or that you cannot identify any process that might
be causing the problem.

Task Manager is useful but you could look at another freeware utility
Process Explorer, which provides similar information but adds that
little bit extra towards seeing what the running processes represent.

For further information about Process Explorer see here:

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml

To ascertain which service is causing the problem select the
image name producing the high CPU usage, right click,
select Properties, Services. Note there are the full names and some
explanation of what each service does.

You will find further information on Services here:
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

To trace the particular Service involved you need to turn off each
service in turn and then restore it noting what effect it has on CPU
usage. However, you need to take care and watch what other Services are
dependent on that service. When you click on the Dependencies tab allow
it a little time to display the information.

Your reference to Adaware Alert initially had me puzzled. I think you mean
Adware Alert. I had not heard of this programme. The better known
programme is Ad-Aware by Lavasoft.
