program windows freezing up

I have a strange problem. If i open a program window e.g. internet
explorer, all is well for a short time, then the window refuses to respond
to any command even to close. I then open prog man with ctrl alt del then
close it by clicking twice on the 'x' close box(it won't close on the first
click) then all is well again for another length of time. It isn't the
same amount of time each time.

I've run more malware and AV progs, online AV the lot. still can't fathom
it.

Although you've said you already scanned for malware, please take a look at
these general malware removal steps, including the preparatory work. If you
were that thorough, move on. If you weren't that thorough, do the work.

If the machine is clean, you have to start narrowing things down for focused
troubleshooting. Start with The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what
changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?

If you can't figure out what changed, do clean-boot troubleshooting to see
if something running in the background is causing the issue.

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements? What firewall
are you using?

How much RAM?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

You should be able to gather more information from Task Manager. With
the Processes tab open select View, Select, Columns and check the boxes
before Peak Memory Usage and Virtual Memory size. What are the figures
for the 6 processes using the largest amounts?

Do you leave the computer on 24/7

I would be interested in seeing a Disk Defragmenter report. Open Disk
Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it
is more informative.

You can have too many Internet Explorer Add-Ons!
