Program windows don't maximize

I've got a problem that virtually all Microsoft software : Office2003,
Internet Explorer, Outlook, Media Player don't maximize to full screen
anymore.
When maximized, they only reache up to about 80% of my screen, leaving part
of the desktop still visible.

If i use the "full screen" utility in Word, it does use the entire screen
though, as does the full screen option in Media Player.
The problem doesn't exist either with non-Microsoft programs.

The only possible (but unlikely? ) cause is that the problem presented
itself the first time after the most recent Windows Update last week.

No, the problem is that there is some sort of invisible limit none of the
windows can succeed. As if windows thinks that the top of the screen is
there, and not five centimeters higher.

Well, I found a solution to the problem, but i can't explain what happened.
After observing what happened during start up, i decided to disable Norton
Anti Virus. This helped. I never had problems with the virus scanner before,
and it was a regularly updated copy. Maybe the latest Windows security update
triggered the problem.
But i got the windows to max again, and i've installed a new virus scanner.

Thanx for your help though !
