Program to see what's running on PC ?

I am having a problem with my PC continuing to be 'busy' for about 5 minutes
after start-up. The little red light on the front of the PC stays on (and
flickering) for about 5 minutes after the PC has started and the mouse
pointer is very 'jerky' when i move the mouse. I do a ctrl-delete to see
what's running but there's not a lot of info there. After about 5 minutes
things seem OK.

I was wondering if there was a program which would show me exactly what the
PC was doing while this red 'busy' light is on.

I have also recently noticed that whilst playing mp3s if i open a new
program then the mp3 sound stutters a lot, which never used to happen.
System restore did nothing neither !

StartupRun is a nice utility to show you whats starting with the machine.
The home page is http://nirsoft.mirrorz.com/ but the site uses frames and
you have to drill down to find it. Here's a direct link to the product
page http://freehost14.websamba.com/nirsoft/utils/strun.html with
download link at bottom of page.

If you don't use them now, I'd recommend running Ad-aware and Spybot
Search & Destroy too. You may have some nasties loading at startup.

Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/

I use codestuff starter. You can monitor and change your startup
programs as well as check on which processes are currently running and
how much memory they are using.
