Hi,

Above the Start button, the left side has a list of the program icons. The portion right above the Start button has more and more icons when I use the programs. Is there a way to keep a fixed set of program icons?

Thanks.

Are you speaking of the programs in the "all programs" area? These are
programs that you, or someone else, installed. Remove the links and you will
not be able to start the program in a normal fashion.

If you are referencing something else, post back a bit more clearly!

Please don't think I am being rude, but doesn't the poster say 'the programs
immediately above the start button'? And 'on the left side'? Seems clear
enough to me.

Aw shucks! I misread what he said. How come you didn't help him though?

Sorry about my first reply!

The programs directly above the start button (6 by default) are the last 6
programs you opened. It is assumed that you may be reopening the same
program - sort of like a "favorite" list. The list is self cleansing. If you
never open a program again, it will roll off the list!

You can change the amount of visible programs by right clicking on a blank
area in the toolbar. Then go to "properties". Click on the "start menu" tab,
then customise! Adjust there!

You may also use the Tweek UI program for Windows XP to define a set of
programs which will appear as frequently used programs. By unchecking the
programs you don't wish to display, you will then have your required
results.

Thanks a lot. I cleared all of them. Now right above the All Programs,
there are 4 icons which are above the empty area. These icons are fixed.
The icons are &Search, IE and two other ones. Can I add more?

Right click. Pin to start menu!
