Program group organization

I'm having difficulty understanding how to organize my programs within groups
on the Start Menu. If I right click All Programs and Explore All Users, and
open the Accessories group, I see a different list of programs than when I
simply open the Accessories list from the start menu. What is the process for
organizing program groups?

Thanks

you ignore the category accesories since that one is from the system.
Its best to leave that one alone...

You create folders for the other groups like : _media _graphics _security
etc. and place
the shorcuts in there with drag and drop...

do that twice, once by right clicking on the start button> Explore All Users
and once more by right clicking on the start button> Explore

the menus will merge... I know this seem strange.. but there is a reason why
MS did it this way...

the reason is that the all users is the list that will go to a NEW user
also...

while you have another list that is for your user only.. these 2 merge into
one whole when you see the menu if
the icons are in similar places for all users and for your user.

You also might want to take a look at this freeware
http://www.tidystartmenu.com/index.shtml
this will help you do things without going in the folders manualy.
"tidy start menu".. its compatible with vista too....

Another approach to organise just your own program groups is -

Right click the task bar
Select properties
Select the 'Start menu' tab
Click 'Customise' for the type of start menu you are using
Click 'Advanced'
Create/delete folders, drag&drop shortcuts etc.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately when I click the Customize button, there is
no Advanced button on the next dialog box. Instead I'm presented with
customization of links, icons, menus, etc. Is the Advanced option locayed
elsewhere?

Thanks

To do what Tom said, you have to swith the menu to the CLASSIC style first
then you will see the customize option buttons...

after you customize the entries you can switch back to the modern menu

Thanks folks, I hadn't realised that it was in Classic mode only.
Sorry Walt.
