Program gone but Windows believes it still there.

Hello,

I recently got a new piece of software. To install it I
had to remove the old software (which had no un-install).
mhsta.exe(add/remove programs) was continuously crashing.
I manually deleted the software and then used regedit to
clear all instances of the software from the registry.
The computer still believes an old version exists on my
machine and it won't let me install the new version. Any
suggestions on where I would look in windows for program
reminants? The program no longer shows up in the
Add/Remove Program menu. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks

Erik

There are all sorts of potential problems that can cause this, including
some intentional problems involving copy-protection schemes.

Asking the software vendor is really your best bet. If the software itself
doesn't include an uninstall, the vendor may have another program to
complete the uninstallation.
