Profiles in Outlook XP

John Saville

My fathers Outlook will not work. It continually comes
up with the error that there have been no profiles
created. There are however profiles. I have gone into
mail in Control Panel and created new profiles;
uninstalled office and reinstalled; uninstalled office,
deleted all folders and then reinstalled. All of this to
no avail. It does not seem to want to recognize the
profiles. Does anyone know what is wrong?

Thanks

John

If it gives the message that "no profiles are created", do
you not have an option to create one, from that same
screen?

I've noticed that if you install Outlook (don't open it),
go to the control panel and setup a profile, then open
Outlook, it will FORCE you to create a profile (even
though you JUST created a profile from the control panel).
Strange this...

Ps: I've seen this on Outlook 2002 & 2003

What operating system are you running?
Are you creating these profiles using a different Windows logon than your
father uses, by chance?

Hi Patrick:

I am logging into his computer as he does. He is running
Windows XP Home. The default profile is there, called
outlook internet settings. I have also created new ones
called outlook and a couple of other names and still to
no avail. I have told it to automatically use a specific
profile and also asked it to ask which profile to use. I
keep getting an error that no profiles have been setup
followed by an error saying server not available.

When I get the first message It tells me to create one in
the mail settings in the control panel.

Outlook will not open at all

Hmmm...

Try this:

Uninstall Office again.

Select Start | Run

Enter regsvr32 /u mapi32.dll

Select OK

Select OK when prompted.

Search for all instances of Mapi32.dll using the Search utility. Make sure
you select Advanced Options on the Find Window to search hidden files and
folders.

Rename any instances of this file it finds.

Reinstall Office XP.

HI patrick:

Changing the filenames of these .dll's wont affect any
other programs, such as Windows XP itself?

Should I also uninstall Publisher? Should I delete the
leftover Microsoft Office folder if there is one?
