Product key

I have recently had major problems and from what I can find out an invalid
product key was the cause. My computer was built for me. I was not aware at
that time that pirated software was used to install Windows Xp Pro (I now run
Windows XP Home. LEGIT.) I have the 25 digit number of the product key that
was used to install Windows XP Pro. My question is, can this number be traced
to the person who it to build my coputer and if so how do I sue for
compesation.

Very doubtful that it can be traced.. do you have a bill of sale that
itemises hardware and software?..

Tracing the Product Key would do you no good, as the pirated keys were
widely publicized years ago. To seek compensation, simply contact
whomever sold you the computer. If that fails, a call to your local law
enforcement agencies would be in order. You might also try Samll Claims
court, as long as you've still got all the paperwork that documents
exactly what you ordered and what you paid for it.

You could also give the name of your vedor to the Microsoft Anti-pirating
team.

You will need to talk to a lawyer about how to sue, and if you retain him or
her - the fee is usually one-third (plus expenses) of any compensation you
might get.
