Product Key on slipstreamed XP Pro SP2 ?

I have a retail version of XP Pro SP1, I updated to SP2. I uninstalled
Nero and my DVD burner disappeared. Device Manager could see it but
couldn't load the device driver for it (error 41). I did a hardware scan
with no effect. I then did a reinstall / repair of XP Sp2.

I copied the contents of the CD to my hard drive via network share. I
then slipstreamed SP2 to that folder. I ran setup / upgrade and all was
well until Product Key time. It seems the slipstreamed folder won't
accept the product key, and I can't get out of the setup loop.

Any suggestions ? I'd like to try to get back to my computer's desktop
and try to do a restore from a restore point (if I still can)

thanx

Very interesting. The only key problems I've seen are when attempting to mix
key types with setupp.ini designations - i.e., trying to use a retail key
with an OEM CD.

Look at the CDs setupp.ini and see what the key type is - do a google on XP
setupp.ini and you'll find a page describing how to decipher the entry.

That will help you at least diagnose if it is a key/CD issue.

Well, I checked the setupp.ini, and it states I have a retail install
version.

Such uninstalls tend to leave unsatisfied reference in the registry,
that prevent the system starting up the device. To tidy up, get a
registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge
it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you *do* use.
