Processor Upgrade

Chris

I am uprading from a Pentium 4 2.0ghz to a
Intel Pentium 4 2.6GHz, 512K 800 FSB Socket 478 Hyper Threading Processor

Will I need to do any tweaking after swapping the hardware?
I know that the hyper threading allows the OS to see 2 processors. Is this
plug and play?

I have an ASUS P4S8X motherboard

Not in that mobo you ain't! You can't stick an 800FSB CPU in a board that is
only rated at 533! Suggest you read here
http://uk.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=P4S8X-X&langs=11 before proceeding.
You're going to need a new motherboard at the very least and, depending on
what you already have, most likely some new RAM as well.

I hope you are also using Windows XP or 2000 (whihc supports multiple
processors) otherwise you will not get the use of HTT.

Erm, this is an XP forum! ;o) And I assume you're referring to XP Pro -
actually HT works under Home or Pro because there is only one physical CPU -
you only require Pro if you have two physical CPUs - HT is only virtual.
