Processor Question

M

Matt

I'm building a system specifically for Photoshop to edit RAW picture files.
Should I stick with Intel or could I go with an AMD based system? I've
always had good results with AMD for gaming and general use PC's but I've
never tried one for something like Photoshop.

Intel without a doubt. Intel now lead AMD for gaming too.

Wrong. If you got money to burn, go for it, get the fastest Intel, however,
the AMD's work just fine and some are a great buy for the horsepower they
have.

And they run hotter than a toaster oven compared to Intel.

might want to rethink that one skippy.

opteron 175 2.2GHz with a mild o/c to 2.75GHz runs all day long with
multiple programs running, sl pulling on the internet/graphics system,
streaming audio, and such - running 33C right now. oh and it is on air, not
water.

Waddle over to Newegg and read the reviews of processors that run about
the same speed, little lady.

yes the new core2s run cool but this by no means is a toaster oven. so you
may wish to rethink that a bit.

oh, and btw, you might wish to check things yourself

p4d 920 2.8 (same era cpu by intel) stock speeds reported temps 35-39 and
another 40 idle and 55c full load
6750 20idle 37 load, 32 idle 59 load
6700 40c loaded

hmmm your not to good at this are you skippy,

o/c opteron loaded 33c

try to pay attention

DOH.

Of course the Core2 runs cooler than similar crap that AMD shoves to
market, peabrain. You have my permission to stand in a corner and rethink
how bruises from my boot, suddenly appeared on your ass.

I guess Performance of the latest Cores do not mean a damn thing to
someone who proudly owns a opteron. . .

The seminar on Common Sense has ended, you are now dismissed.

the topic you wished to discuss was temps not performance - which you
promptly shot yourself in the ass with your own reference materials.

so do try and pay attention

My E6850 has never hit temperatures above 29C.

Perhaps it's time to run in circles and chase yer tail, squirt.

out of a misstatement.

your statement was check newegg blaaaa blaaaa blaaaa- the basis for your
facts and argument. you were proven that your reference is faulty, so now
you try and change the discussion.

do try and pay attention - it's the little details like that which trip you
up.

F**k these ignorant homies. Get an Apple. They do the best with graphics.

Yes, of course, and HP Unix is the best Unix, of course, it runs only on HP
boxes. Makes programming an OS a tad easier and hardware more expensive and
less diverse.

Right now Intel leads AMD in about everything, including
price/performance. A mid-range Core 2 Quad (Q6600 for example) can be had
for $300.00 or less if you shop around and will perform very well in
Photoshop. Even in programs that are not multithreaded it will perform
better than Core 2 Duos and single cores because of it's architecture that
distributes the load even when the programs are not written for it. They are
also good gamer chips if you pair it with a good video card and decent
overclockers if you are into that.
