I have the original System Restore Disk from Gateway and a Service Pack
Disk.
On a full hard disk restore using Windows XP Home Backup.
Is it correct to use to use the Service Pack Disk after the System Restore
Disk and before the Restore Operation ?

If you are going to be setting your computer back to factory settings (which
includes removal of all personal files and settings since you have owned the
computer), you would put the restore cd in first and go through that
process. When this is done the computer will be at factory conditions.
Then apply Windows XP Service Pack 1, which I am guessing is on that service
pack disk. Finally, you'll want to connect to
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp and download any new
updates that have been released since the service pack.

Now that covers the system restore disk and the service pack disk. What
restore operation are you referring to?

Windows XP home has an optional backup program. I took a full backup of the
hard drive. I want to be ready in an emergency.

In that case those are just backups of specific files, so I would restore
the OS first, then the service pack then your files after you verify the
computer is working properly
