procedure entry point: can't re-install XP sp1

Tried to do a virus scan by AVG from a CD, I get "the procedure entry
point... error message.
Tried to run SFC /SCANNOW and it won't recognize the windows cd.
Tried in safe mode too
Tried to re-install Win XP, entry point error... and now window has to shut
down error...
Any suggestions? Please!

Please excuse me! I spent almost two hours searching and reading threads to
see if I could resolve the problem. I could not find the same issue. If you
would kindly point me to the like-kind thread I would gladly post there.
Maybe if I had the correct thread I wouldn't need to post there as the kind
people of this board will have already solved the problem.
Please let me know which thread I should have posted on.

I would check the hardware (RAM specially). If you are not familiar
with the hardware of your PC, you should take it to a shop to have
this done for you.
