I got on my computer tonight and all my files had been removed from my
desktop, word, internet favorites, email. I have now gotten most of it make
off my c drive but now how do I retain it so that when I turn off my computer
it doesn't all get whipped clean again?

Looks like the user profile became corrupt, and Windows created a new user
profile path for you. In this event, all the desktop files, internet
favorites and other files which were present in your Homepath would be
present in the old profile folder. Look in C:\Documents and
Settings\<username>
