problems with vista outlook 2007 data file?

I am using Vista with Outlook 2007. I moved over quite a lot of old email,
over 2 gig from XP Outlook 2003. It imported fine. However the next day
quite a lot of it is missing.

All the folders moved over and it kept all the email in the Personal
Folders subfolders except for the Inbox. For the Inbox all I see is email
from 6/30/07 and newer.

I do not have archive turned on. I checked in the default location and
there is no archive file. What happened to all my older Inbox email? Why?
Is this a problem with Outlook 2007 or Vista with Outlook 2007? If I move
the email over again then will it delete it again?

I do not understand the files. In Local > Microsoft > Outlook folder I have:
File Date Modified Size
Outlook.pst 7/6/2007 12:39 am 4,299,345 kb
outlook2003.pst 12:24 am 4,118,801 kb
outlook(1).pst 7/16/07 12:24 am 1,557,457 kb

I assume it is using outlook.pst since that is all that is showing in
Outlook 2007. So why is it accessing the others? It seems to me the file is
4 gig, if I'm reading it right. So all me email is probably there even
though I can't see email in the inbox older than 6/30/07.

Another issue - I dragged Junk E-Mail up to Favorite Folders and it went and
I dragged email to it extensively that day. But the next day it no longer
shows in Favorite Folders.

fyi this is an AMD 64 bit processor, asus motherboard, with Vista 32 bit
installed - from the Microsoft AMD roadshow so it all should work together.

You should never transfer Outlook data by importing unless you want to lose
or misplace it. You already have your data file. Just open it.

Thanks Russ! I had no idea. Of course! This is obvious. I wasn't thinking
and did it the old way.

You might need to create a new Outlook profile when you do. Importing a PST
usually corrupts the existing profile.
