Outlook 2007 does not show new email message number attached to in

I'm running Outlook 2007 on a 64-Bit Vista Machine.
I'm having an issue with my new emails and the inbox. In Outlook 2003 every
time a new email would be received a little number would appears outside the
inbox folder for that email account under my favorite folders navigation
pane. (ie. Inbox in "email folder" (2)) It made it very simple to see when an
new message arrived and from which one of several email accounts.
Unfortunately since I've upgraded to Outlook 2007 this feature no longer
seems to be working. I've found several threads that say to turn things on or
off and have tried all of them multiple times. I've even reinstalled and
repaired Outlook along with the other Office products. I'm at my wits ends
and trying to manage all of my emails is becoming difficult. Please help!

Roady,
I am using IMAP mail accounts with Outlook.
When I switch between folders eventually the numbers do show up on the
outside of the folder like I mentioned before.
I've tried to recreate my email profile and I've even deleted all the email
accounts and then re-added them again to see if maybe that's what the problem
was, but still no resolution.
