Problems with the Date area in a template

I'm working on a couple of PowerPoint templates where the client wants to
have the date on the title page as well as the Title and the presenter's
name. I put the date/time area in the master title slide centered with the
other auto text boxes. However, when I've tried changing the text in the
normal slide mode, there is no date text box. Is there a way to make this box
appear in normal mode, or to create another text box that can be edited in
normal slide mode?

I've been reading similar topics and found out that if you have the date/time
set to update automatically the date will show up, but is there a way to have
the date be editable like the title and text boxes?
